Just want to point out that this is an awesome outfit...because I'm wearing my awesome pants, my awesome Oasap cap-toe shoes, and my new Awesome Cape-Sweater (or whatever this thing is called). Also...check out Oasap. these are not the only adorable shoes!!!
But moving on ;) Today it struck me that we as bloggers are always filling out personality question profiles, sharing pictures of how we spend our days, talking about the people and object we love...BUT we don't really spend too much time talking about our weaknesses or our bad moments. Now, clearly a style blog is not the place to bemoan Fate's ill gifts or spend pages of text talking about all the negatives in our personality or lives. But there's a certain median point, I think, where really getting to know each other and being part of a community should include being open and able to share/laugh about/discuss EVERY aspect of our personhood. Make sense?
So my thought for the day is...every strength we have has a flip-side weakness and vice versa. Think about it for a sec! Take me for example I'm very decided, dedicated, and determined, which has gotten me far in life--the flip side is, sometimes I overwhelm people with my forward-thinking and forward-moving or run myself into the ground with my own effort. I'm also very strong-minded so I think quickly and thoroughly and will stand up for what I believe--the flip side is that I can be stubborn and sometimes abrasive.
Or ponder the vice-versa. For example, one of my weaknesses is loving other people and wanting to make them happy so much that I let them walk all over me--but the flip side is that I don't hold grudges and am always willing to resolve difficulties with others. Another weakness of mine is being too academic, head-oriented, over-analytical, etc--but the flip side is that I think deeply and effectively about things and often have unique insights. Getting the drift of what I'm saying?
Anyways, I'd love to hear your thoughts on all of this. It's been so fun becoming part of the blogging community, and I definitely respect your opinions. And I'd love to continue getting to know you better :) If you feel like posting on the topic, link me up so I can make sure to read. Or if you think it's not a post-worthy topic...please comment and let me hear what you've got to say!
And then buy these Oasap cap toe heels. 'Cause they will seriously rock your world :)

i agree...there is a yin and a yang to everything. i am impulsive (which i think is good and bad) and stubborn like you (which i think it mostly a good thing)! very thoughtful post!
ReplyDeleteThese is a whole lot of awesomeness going on with this outfit! Lurrrvvv those floral pants. Its really brazen of you to share your weaknesses as well (which are not half bad compared to most). I admire your courage ;) I actually share a few of those traits myself.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, those floral pants look amazing on you. Thank you for sharing some of your not-so-great traits with us. I agree that sometimes in blogging we present this perfect image of ourselves, but that's not reality.

Very thought provoking post! Yes, you are correct that in blog world we do tend to focus on sunshine and roses, maybe out of fear that people won't want to read if we let our dark side through. I've gotten past that a little bit, if I'm having a bad day, I say I'm having a bad day.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, there is definitely a flipside to every good thing about us! We're human, not 100% perfect - and you know what, if we were all totally perfect, I think life would be kind of boring!
I think I can be detail oriented in a good way but also to extremes and that can get me into trouble sometimes. And I am loyal and loving to those in my life. My husband says I wear my heart on my sleeve, which again can be both good and bad. So yep, always two sides!
Such an interesting discussion, I will check back to see what others say too!
And yes, you are wearing an AWESOME outfit sweetie!
What adorable pants and shoes! But to address your post, I admire your honest with this and really love that you chose to address it in the midst of a clothing-oriented post. We're really multi-faceted people, aren't we?

Definitely agreed. I've learned a lot about my strengths and weaknesses this year (working as an in-class tutor at an elementary school), and have definitely seen how each of them has a flip-side.
ReplyDeleteLovely look, by the way. :)

That really is a great topic to ponder. Blogs are often filled with the positive, the happy, the light. But isn't that only one side or one piece of a person's life? I think sometimes touching on those "negative" topics really help to flesh out a blog and its writer. It helps to reminder readers that you are a person soon - good and bad included. And I think that really strengthens those connections and relationships. Great discussion point!
ReplyDeleteAlso really agree with you, this is an awesome outfit. I love those pants - so bold! And the shoes are perfection with this look. Adorable!

Oh yes, it definitely is an awsome outfit! I love these pants, they look wonderful on you - just lake the pumps, so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI totally have the same opinion on this topic, blogs only tell the positive things of life - well fashion blogs do. And I think it depends on what you focus on your blog: if the blog is about fashion, lifestyle and you, I'd say it may be not a bad idea to share sometimes also negative things, or to just write how you feel. But that depends: some blogs only post the outfit and don't want to be "personal". And then take for example my blog: I really want to focus on cultural and academic events and how to dress in this cultural world, to operas, to concerts etc. - I don't think that the blog should be about my character, and how I feel. But perhaps you noticed, that I'm quite honest in the things I write about a concert or an event, and when I'm disappointed with it, I really say this and try to point out why the interpretation didn't satisfy me.
I think every blogger should just write and post what he/she wants, and what comes to her mind, I think this is what a good post has to be about ;-)

Those pants ARE awesome, love them. This is a great topic.. and I think it does depend partly on what the focus of your blog is. But I do think a lot of people worry that there are readers out there who don't actually read their blog, they just look at the pictures. So then they think, what's the point of saying how you feel if no one reads it. I think it's important to just keep doing/posting what you feel is right for you blog, regardless! :)

Ummm first of all those are the best floral pants I have seen- they make mine Green with envy! Yes I completely agree with what you are saying- I try to keep my blog a happy go lucky place but I have my bad days, for example I'm very motivated and a hard worker but on the flip side I work too much and it causes me great anxiety- something I am working on!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for you comment! I'll follow you back! ;)

oh I definitely know what you're talking about. I'm a pretty self-confident person and therefore people sometimes find me being arrogant which can sometimes be so but of course not all the time. I just say what I honestly think and I can't change it either.
ReplyDeleteanyway, what a lovely look! I want those floral pants and I love the shoes too but can't order shoes from online shops because my foot size varies from 38 to 40 and it's crazy :P

I love the print - great pants!
ReplyDeleteAnd, i really appreciate your honesty and this post. I definitely agree, and love to get to “know” people more through their posts. I think that when you confess your weaknesses people often feel very vulnerable. It’s much more easy to talk about positivity and what makes us happy ... so, thank you for sharing ;)

Such good thoughts! Like others have pointed out, some blogs may not have the right focus for getting too personal, but I believe that no matter what, bloggers should be real. So often I stumble upon a new blog and read post after happy-go-lucky, la-la-land, "my life and my five perfect children are just so wonderful" post, and I quickly stop reading. There's no need to be fake with one another--especially as women, since "faking it" is something we, sadly, seem to do so well.
ReplyDeleteI. Love. Those. Shoes. Like seriously, they are gorg. And you are rocking that cape sweater and floral pants! That is not an easy outfit to pull off, but you are making it look perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love any blog that is honest - and it's so obvious what isn't honest and what is. Honesty keeps me reading a blog - before even clothes. :)
Such a beautiful outfit! Love the jeans and cap toe shoes - so trendy! I love oasap!! Hope you are having a wonderful day!
